Meet Our Director of Field Operations, Matt
Some people find their career later in life. Others know exactly where they’re headed before they’re old enough to drive. For Matt, Director of Field Operations, that journey started around age five with treehouses, backyard projects, and a hammer always close by.
“I’ve always built things,” Matt said. “I’ve always had a hammer in my hand and always been interested in construction sites, heavy equipment, all of those kinds of things. It’s who I am.”
Bringing Design and Construction Together
Nearly 25 years later, that same curiosity and hands on mindset shape his work every day. As Director of Field Operations, no two days look alike for Matt. One day might be spent reviewing details for a new project kickoff, while the next could involve visiting a jobsite, solving challenges with field staff, or helping teams navigate the transition from design into construction.

His role centers on supporting field teams while making sure information flows seamlessly between construction, project management, and design. Having worked as an Assistant Project Manager, Assistant Superintendent, Estimator, and Superintendent throughout his career, Matt understands the priorities and challenges each team faces. That perspective helps create stronger collaboration and keeps projects moving forward.
“I kind of look at my role as making sure that design and construction are integrated,” Matt said. “Bridging the gap between those two groups and making sure they’re working together as one cohesive unit.”
That collaborative approach benefits clients just as much as it benefits project teams. By bringing construction expertise into conversations early, projects become more buildable, questions are answered faster, and teams can spend more time delivering quality work instead of solving avoidable problems in the field.
A Career Built on Teamwork
One project that stands out for Matt is the Steinhafels store in Vernon Hills, Illinois. While the unique framing made the project memorable, it was the people who left the biggest impression. Everyone shared a common goal, communicated well, and stepped up to help one another. That kind of teamwork, he says, makes even the most complex projects feel achievable.

Matt’s passion for construction goes beyond schedules and jobsite coordination. What excites him most is watching raw materials become something lasting and meaningful. Seeing a pile of lumber transformed into a finished building never gets old, and neither does working alongside talented craftspeople who know how to make it happen.
Quality and safety remain at the center of every project. Matt’s philosophy is simple: take the extra time to do it right the first time. That commitment not only produces better work, but often saves time in the long run by avoiding costly rework.
Beyond the Jobsite
When the workday ends, Matt is usually still building something. Whether it’s woodworking, tackling home projects, repairing pinball machines with his daughter, or helping run White Fence Flower Company with his wife, he enjoys staying busy with his hands. He also helps his father-in-law on the family farm and spends plenty of time cheering on his daughter at dance events.

For someone like Matt, the passion of building extends far beyond the jobsite. Whether it’s creating stronger teams, solving challenges, or working on the next project at home, Matt is always looking forward to what comes next.
