Architectural Design of The Goddard School in Waunakee
Our design-build team is bringing another exciting project to life! We’re excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at the architectural and interior design process for The Goddard School, which will soon break ground in Waunakee, WI. The new early childhood development center will cater to infants through five-year-olds, providing a safe, engaging, thoughtfully designed learning and play environment.
Our Design-Build Approach
The Goddard School is a space that fosters growth, creativity, and development. Because this is a design-build project, our in-house team of architects, interior designers, engineers, and construction staff are working closely to ensure that every element, from the overall layout to the smallest design detail, creates an optimal learning environment.
Key Design Features
1. Thoughtful Flooring Choices
High-quality, durable flooring is crucial in a children’s learning environment, which is why luxury vinyl tile in a neutral wood tone was chosen. Around the multipurpose room in the center of the floorplan, we introduced three accent colors of the tile to add vibrancy and visual interest, making the space feel more fun and dynamic while maintaining durability.
2. Engaging First Impressions
The entryway of any building sets the tone for the entire experience. In The Goddard School prototype, the entrance featured a simple bench with display cases on either side of a monitor. However, we saw an opportunity to enhance this area by incorporating additional windows for improved visual security and openness. We also designed three uniquely colored huts with small seating areas and cozy upholstered seating for children and adults below. Making the space feel more inviting and creating a functional and interactive design element.
3. A Cohesive Color Palette
To maintain a sense of harmony and consistency throughout the school, we carried the same three accent colors from the multipurpose room into the classrooms, using them for wall paint and furnishings. Additionally, a calming, neutral wood finish was selected to provide a balanced contrast to the playful color elements, ensuring the space feels both stimulating and comfortable.
Looking Ahead
Our architectural and interior design teams have put a lot of thought into every aspect of The Goddard School’s design, and we can’t wait to see it come to life. As we prepare to break ground, we’ll continue refining the details to ensure that this space meets the highest standards for early childhood education.
