Iconica Architectural Design team and UWM Extern, Samantha

Iconica hosts UW Milwaukee Architecture Student for Externship Program

Iconica recently had the pleasure of hosting University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student Samantha for a week as part of the externship program. Samantha is currently studying Architecture at the School of Architecture & Urban Planning (SARUP) and plans to graduate in 2023.

Samantha spent a week working and learning with our architectural design team. During her sta

y, Samantha toured two project sites, one completed and one under construction. She completed design strategies on a site plan for a multi-family project. Samantha also learned how to use REVIT, an architectural and building design software, within two days.

The skills Samantha learned in REVIT helped her design a front desk as part of a small design charrette project, which she presented to the design team. A design charrette is a short, collaborative meeting during which a team member shares their work with others and the team then uses that time to talk through, collaborate, and sketch designs to explore and share a broad diversity of design ideas.

“I got to work with some great people in a great environment,” said Samantha. “I liked the vibe at Iconica.”

Externships allow students to gain experience in architecture and urban planning within a professional setting. Follow the link to learn more about the SARUP Externship Program.

We enjoyed having Samantha at Iconica and wish her all the best in her future endeavors. Next up, Samantha heads to Paris for two months to study architecture and the culture as part of being accepted for a summer trip abroad.
