Meet the Team: Cody Van Haren
Your name: Cody Van Haren
What do you do at Iconica:
I am an Assistant Project Manager. Current projects I am working on include Esser and Zander Place, Kettle Park Senior Living, Steinhafels Roof Renovation and soon I will be in Waukesha at the New Perspective Senior Living Project.
How long have you worked here:
I had an internship last summer and then was hired on full time after I graduated from UW Platteville.
What do you love about your job? There is never a day that is the same.
What led you to the construction field?
I love being able to see our work become a finished product. I grew up around construction, and the feeling never gets old.
How has construction/ or your job changed since you started?
I am at the beginning of my career. I started as an assistant project manager and soon will be on site as a project engineer.
Were you interested in building as a child?
Growing up, I thought that there was nothing better than some 2x4s, a bucket of nails and a hammer.
What are some of your favorite projects you have worked on?
I enjoyed working last year on Legacy at Noel Manor. I was able to work on a variety of tasks from being on site helping with framing, working with the superintendent and writing subcontracts.
Favorite song to sing in the car? ‘Take It All Back’ by Judah and the Lion
What would you say to someone considering working with Iconica?
Go for it. It’s a company you can grow in and be successful.
Dream vacation? New Zealand for a Red Stag hunt.
If you weren’t in the construction field what would you be doing?
I would be an operating engineer, so still construction!
If you won the lottery what would be the first thing you would purchase?
1969 Chevrolet C10 Short Box
Are you a morning or night person? Morning person, it’s quiet in the mornings.
How can we help bring younger people into the trades?
I would suggest the trades continuing to work with high schools to work with students. Show students early on that a career in the trades are a rewarding career with plenty of opportunities.
How do you stay on top of construction trends?
Talking to others in the industry, if something is new and is worthwhile, people will be talking about it.
Best advice your mother or father gave you?
Do it right the first time, so you don’t have to do it again later.
