STATE BANK OF CROSS PLAINS – MIDDLETON (SBCP)

When considering a branch in Middleton, State Bank of Cross Plains was challenged with the location, budget, timing and trying to predict the future of banking. Iconica helped supply design options with operational and maintenance considerations as well as cost and schedule implications. The resulting achievement is an inspired and functional building that will stand at the west entry of Middleton for many years to come.

The request for a striking building was achieved both inside and out. “It’s a classic design that won’t go out of style,” said architect, Jeremy Frommelt. “The bank’s shape and size fits the site perfectly. It is beautiful to look at and will be memorable to the public and customers.”

SBCP designs their banks to fit into each community. This modern design works well with the surrounding structures and has a grande presence on the corner of Deming Way and University Avenue. With two stories, the building* provides additional space for growth or relocation of other departments to the bank. The open-concept branch offers advanced technology banking solutions replacing ATMs with modern ITMs—Interactive Teller Machines. The bank becomes less transactional and more conversational with a variety of seating and workspaces.

The team selected natural materials, including stone, wood, and glass, to keep the design minimalistic. Inside, the natural light and modern interiors are inviting and comfortable. Key areas have inlaid wooden ceilings, stone accent walls, LED cove lighting, a tiled fireplace, and a coffee nook to continue the visual flow. “The bank asked for a low maintenance building, and we took that into account from the exterior to the interior to the design details and finishes. For example, on the outside, the siding that looks like wood is actually metal, with no maintenance needed,” said Frommelt.

*The two-story building replaces the current State Bank of Cross Plains branch office on the same lot at 8301 University Avenue, Middleton.
