Accuray is a biotechnology firm that came to Iconica with a business problem. A newly approved patent was creating the push for a huge increase in production and consequently the need to accommodate it with larger testing and assembly facilities. Now. The new 66,000-square-foot building allowed for the specialty functions necessary to build and test their Hi-Art radiation therapy systems, including eight concrete testing bunkers and a clerestory that provides crucial daylight to the assembly area. Concept to completion for this project occurred in under 10 months.
THE BETTER WAY
A unique feature of the project was the creation of a 4,000-square-foot concrete bunker used to test a revolutionary new medical system that delivers radiation to cancer patients. Additional goals for the space were to maximize energy efficiency and create open, collaborative work spaces with natural light and views of the outdoors.
