Your name: Jean Spataro
What do you do at Iconica?
Project Assistant II – my primary role is tracking and organizing project documentation to keep our client’s project goals in front of the team and to help keep everything moving so the project stays on schedule.
How long have you worked here? 5 years
What do you love about your job?
I love helping people every day and always being able to do something for someone. We have clients who I’ve worked with for several years such as The Gialamas Company. I enjoy working on many ongoing projects we have together in collaboration with numerous different coworkers.
What led you to the construction field?
I have always had an interest in how things fit together. I love puzzles which eventually evolved into my love of quilting.
What is the most exciting thing about your job?
Starting with a plot of dirt and ending with an amazing and beautiful building.
Were you interested in building as a child?
No, I wasn’t really. I thought I was going to be a dietician.
What are some of your favorite projects you have worked on?
Bishops Bay – I am amazed at the design each time I see it. Jeff Eaton, one of our architects, tied the new features into the existing historic building in a way that it all looks and flows as one. To me, it looks as though the addition has always been there.
Sauk Trails Plaza II – To date, this was one of the biggest projects I have worked on. With a building that large, it was a multi-year project and we have continuously been building out each tenant space as they are leased. The intricacies of it all has served as a good challenge and something to look forward to each day.
River Valley Bank – This project will always hold a special place in my heart since, it was my first ground up project!
Which famous person would you like to interview or meet?
Gwyneth Paltrow. I loved her role and the character development surrounding her and Tony Stark’s relationship throughout the Iron Man series.
Favorite song to sing in the car?
There are too many to list. I sing in the car all the way to and from work.
How do you work with other departments at Iconica?
I really enjoy working with the other departments at Iconica. Ultimately, that’s what being a team is all about, that collaboration with others. Together, we create beautiful buildings for our clients to enjoy. It takes someone from every department to accomplish what we do. A project flows from architecture, to estimating, to construction and project managers. We truly are a team.
Dream vacation? Tahiti, Bora Bora, and New Zealand
Best advice your mother or father gave you?
Life isn’t fair / Keep putting one foot in front of the other / You’ve got this
Grilled sirloin steak with sautéed leeks and lots of Kerry gold butter.
What does a regular day look like for you?
I am up by 5am, I have coffee, and get ready for work. I leave my house by 6:45am and work from 7:30am to 4:15pm. At 5pm I do a CrossFit workout at Farmland Fitness in Waunakee, and by 6:30pm I’m home for a little TV with my husband Joe, and usually I am in bed by 9pm so I can get up and do it over again the next day.
