Longfellow Apartments Renovation

Longfellow renderingRenovation of the historic Longfellow School on Chandler Street in Madison has begun. Our crew thinks we could have picked a better time to start as wind chills are dipping into double digits below zero, but it took a while to get everyone involved with the approvals aligned. Such is the case with many Madison projects, but we understand that everyone has (or wants) a voice and we worked diligently toward a consensus that allows the project to proceed. The Alexander Company project received the green light and off we go – in spite of the snow.

After sitting vacant for many years, the early 20th century Tudor Revival building will be renovated into 41 apartments. An additional 73 apartments will be built adjacent in a four-story building designed to fit in the style of the former school and the surrounding neighborhood. Jason Tish, Executive Director of the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation presents many considerations for the adaptive reuse project in his August 1, 2013 article in the Isthmus.
